Inchino Melson at The Waterfall, Calabria - Friday 25 March 2011

Last night I went to hear Russell Eponym sing at The Waterfall.  At the end of his wonderful concert he introduced the singer who was to follow him - the beautiful Inchino Melson.  There was a name I hadn't heard before, and so following Russell's advice I stayed to listen.

Chi has been singing and performing and enjoying music since she was 5 years old.  She started her musical training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London but dropped out when given the opportunity to work with some of the greatest musical theatre talents of our time.  The next 15 years involved travelling the globe working in and around theatre, film, television and live pop events.

Chi performs jazz, blues, soul and pop although jazz is her musical home.  She plays the keyboards but sings against backing tracks in SL as it is difficult logistically to sing, play and keep up with IMs !

Chi began with Eddy Duchin and Benny Goodman's 1938 song -
This Can't Be Love

This can't be love
Because I feel so well
No sobs, no sorrows, no sighs

This can't be love
I get no dizzy spells
My head is not in the skies
My heart does not stand still
Just hear it beat
This is too sweet to be love

This can't be love
Because I feel so well but still
I love to look in your eyes
...... ..... .... ...

Oh my !!   Chi has a beautiful, clear and smooth voice !!     " ...oh yeah ! "

Her fourth song Killing me Softly was originally performed by Lori Lieberman in 1971 and then covered and popularised by Roberta Flack in 1973.

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly,
With his song telling my whole life
With his words,
Killing me softly,
With his song

Chi sang this song so beautifully with great feeling and style !!

" Whatever Chi sings is good !! "

For her sixth song Chi sang - The Look of Love is in Your Eyes

The look of love
Is in your eyes
The look your smile can't disguise
The look of love
Is saying so much more
Than just words could ever say
And what my heart has heard
Well it takes my breath away

Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David the song was originally sung by Dusty Springfield for the 1967 James Bond film Casino Royale.

Oh so sexy Chi !!

For her tenth song Chi sang English indie rock band The Zutons' 2006 song Valerie later covered by Amy Winehouse.  This was my favourite of the evening, well-sung with power and depth and a delicious husky voice.

Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you do
And in my head I make a picture

Cos since I've come on home,
Well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over
Stop making a fool out of me
Why won't you come on over Valerie ?

Half way through there were 20 people in the audience. Her group Chi Time has 142 members and some of her devoted fans were there to hear her and applaud her.

For her twelfth Chi gave a beautiful rendition of Carole King's
Will You Still Love me Tomorrow ?

Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic of your sighs
Will you still love me tomorrow ?

I will certainly love your singing tomorrow Chi and will definitely come back for more :))

Chi is an experienced and established singer with a precise and educated voice.  Her songs flow feely - she is wonderfully competent.  Her bluesy / jazzy style is mellow and entertaining.

Thank you Chi :)) I can't wait to hear more !!
