He opened with Eric Clapton's Key to the Highway
I got the key to the highway,
Billed out and bound to go.
I'm gonna leave here running;
Walking is most too slow.
I'm going back to the border
Woman, where I'm better known.
You know you haven't done nothing,
Drove a good man away from home.
Billed out and bound to go.

AM has a strong, deep voice which together with his bass guitar and tuneful playing make for a tremendous blues-rock sound!!!

The world lost a great and much-loved blues-rock guitarist and singer earlier this year with the death of Northern Ireland's Gary Moore. AM did a great cover of his song Still Got The Blues
Used to be so easy to give my heart away.
But I found out the hard way,
there's a price you have to pay.
I found out that love was no friend of mine.
I should have known time after time.
So long, it was so long ago,
but I've still got the blues for you.
Used to be so easy to give my heart away.
But I found out the hard way,
there's a price you have to pay.
I found out that love was no friend of mine.
I should have known time after time.
So long, it was so long ago,
but I've still got the blues for you.
?¨°o.? AWESOME SONG! ?.o°¨?
Buddy Guy's beautiful and tuneful blues rock song followed -
What Kind Of Woman Is This ?
The gates of Heaven must be open
What Kind Of Woman Is This ?
The gates of Heaven must be open
I think I saw an angel just walk by
Hey, the gates of heaven must be open
I think I saw an angel just walk by
...... ..... .... ...
You should be locked up, pretty girl
in my bedroom with me
Hey, you should be locked up, pretty girl
in my bedroom with me
Hey, the gates of heaven must be open
I think I saw an angel just walk by
...... ..... .... ...
You should be locked up, pretty girl
in my bedroom with me

in my bedroom with me

At it's peak AM had an audience of 55 people. He's a formidable and very talented artist who had the crowd rocking at his feet and wanting more !
Next came the 1956 song by Preston Foster, popularised by Muddy Waters in the following year Got My Mojo Working
I've got my mojo working but it just don't work on you
I've got my mojo working but it just don't work on you
I done tried it in New York city, now I'm gonna try it out on you
I've got my mojo working
I've got my mojo working
Lord, I've got my mojo working
I've got my mojo working
I've got my mojo working, it just don't work on you
I done tried it in New York city, now I'm gonna try it out on you
I've got my mojo working
I've got my mojo working
Lord, I've got my mojo working
I've got my mojo working

Dottie Shakin All Over !!!
The legendary BB King's How Blue Can You Get got us in the groove ...
I've been down hearted baby
ever since the day we met
I said I've been down hearted baby
ever since the day we met
our love is nothing but the blues
baby, how blue can you get ?
You're evil when I'm with you, baby
and you're jealous when we're apart
I said You're evil when I'm with you, baby
and you're jealous when we're apart
how blue can you get baby
the answer is right here in my heart

And the party continued with Shakin All Over !!! written by Johnny Kidd and performed by British band Johnny Kidd and the Pirates. It reached number 1 in the UK charts in August 1960 and featured memorable opening guitars and solo from Joe Moretti born in Glasgow, Scotland.
When you move in right up close to me
That’s when I get the shakes all over me
Quivers in my backbone
I got the shakes in my kneebones
Quivers in my thighbone
Shakin’ all over
Just the way that you say goodnight to me
Brings this feelin’ all inside of me
Quivers in my backbone
I got the shakes in my kneebones
Quivers in my thighbone
Shakin’ all over
When you move in right up close to me
That’s when I get the shakes all over me
Quivers in my backbone
I got the shakes in my kneebones
Quivers in my thighbone
Shakin’ all over
Just the way that you say goodnight to me
Brings this feelin’ all inside of me
Quivers in my backbone
I got the shakes in my kneebones
Quivers in my thighbone
Shakin’ all over
His 14th and last song was You can Leave Your Hat On written by american Randy Newman and made famous much later by englishman Joe Cocker.

Hey Gold...sounds like you caught some great SL musicians at a really fantastic venue. Wish you could have stayed longer and caught Bluemonk Rau. That bluesman is a fantastic boogie woogie piano player that will blow you away. It never ceases to amaze me the fine talent we have in SL!
ReplyDeleteCheck out Bluemonk if you have the chance. You will not be sorry.
What a great article - I was there for this (and am a long-time fan of AM) and you captured his essence perfectly! Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteAM Quar is a fantastic and versatile performer. In addition to being a really good vocalist and musician, he has a "je ne sais quoi" quality. I think he has a heart of gold and it just shines through his music. You'll always find AM gracious, kind and generous. There is no ego with AM, and he treats everyone not only to his talent but to his good nature. Jimmy is another favorite performer of mine. Wish I could have heard all five hours.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, Gold! Thank you for doing this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comments Libby, dancerglimmer and Eve :))
ReplyDeleteYes Libby I've heard Bluemonk and intend to blog him :)) Sometimes I'm limited by my time zone which is SLT + 8
