The recent massive flooding disasters first in Queensland and now Victoria have prompted SL artists and creators to organise Extend a Helping Hand (Jan 11th to Feb 8th) in order to raise money to help disaster victims.
I went along on Australia Day to see some of the major live music event which is part of this Flood Relief initiative. First in the morning when the australian band SOAR were performing and later in the day when Dottie and I enjoyed the awesome contribution of englishman Sid Slade !
.
Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, the date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.
Utopia and EnGedi is a music venue owned by Bundy and Benethar Fluffball. Thanks to their generosity the event was held in the beautiful parkland of B&B's among big trees, lawns of green grass and waterfalls :)) I found Bundy among the audience with her wee puppy dog asleep on her shoulder :))
I arrived just after SOAR had begun to sing and the amount contributed by the audience to the Flood Disaster fund was already 68,500 linden dollars. At the end of their performance it had passed SOAR's target and stood at 85,520 lindens.
SOAR filled their hour with outstanding music and beautiful songs including one inspired by two SL lovers who often come to SOAR's shows - Stephen and EbonyJay
I'm looking from the stage and I'm staring right into love ......
You all give me something that I've never felt before ......
Our love finds it's way across the world that I've never felt before ......
You all tell me something that I've never felt before ......
Our love finds it's way across the world that I've never felt before ......
You all show me something that I've never felt before ......
Our love finds it's way across the world that I've never felt before ......
Bright Oh expressed his solidarity with the people of Brazil who had also recently suffered terrible loss of life in recent heavy rains and mudslides !
Terrylynn Melody followed SOAR on stage and began by reminding us that there are 263 lindens to the US Dollar and if everybody in SL gave that amount for any cause we could change the world !

SID SLADE - It was Sid's real life birthday and his idea of celebrating was to do something for somebody else :))
Sid comes from the Birmingham area of England, not a million miles from where I was born. It's good to hear him talking in his strong west midlands accent which amazingly almost disappears when he starts singing.
His performance was a celebration of 1960's english rock band Pink Floyd's album The Dark Side of the Moon and a tribute to the awesome Syd Barrett. When the album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios London in 1973 the group used some of the most advanced recording techniques of the time including multitrack and tape loops and analogue synthesisers. Sid covered a major part of the album using a brilliantly put together backing track especially prepared for him.
Among his songs was - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter ...... ..... .... ...
Dottie and I had heard Sid once before almost 6 months ago when he was introduced by his friend Josie Anderton. His singing was good then and is even better now !! He has an extremely good manager in Michaela Rookstown.
Sid ably captured some of the colourful stage presence of Pink Floyd with mega particle effects to give a flavour of the bright lights of their live performances. Sid has become a flashy performer !!
Indeed Sid had almost become a one-man Pink Floyd tribute band !! He continued with - Money
Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay
And your O.K.
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team ...... ..... .... ...
His smooth, flexible voice, very competent singing and great performance make Sid a singer well-worth seeking out in SL. Watch his progress join his group and become a Sidder !!
By the end of Sid's gig the total of money donated to the flood relief fund had reached L$ 148, 394. Happy Birthday Sid !
The two days made me proud to be part of Second Life's community which once again had generated a wonderful example of human co-operation and solidarity for good causes !! All donations go to the Premier's Disaster Relief Fund. Every little bit can make a difference !!
As I write this on 28th January the EaHH donation box had amassed an amazing 360,500 lindens !! (US $ 1370, GB £925)
